SNEAK'S BIRTHDAY BEATS V.14 'SNEAKIN N FREAKIN'

Sneak's Birthday Beats event was started in 1998 at Industry nightclub as a small surprise party for 850 heads. The special Thursday night featured a four turntable set up with Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk, Derrick Carter, Junior Sanchez, King Britt, Doc Martin and DJ Sneak taking turns smashing the decks. For many it was the most legendary event to take place at 901 King St. West, with people travelling from all over Canada, US and even Europe to be in attendance. Over it's 13 year history the legend has been built with several Toronto editions featuring Mark Farina, Basement Jaxx, Francois K, DJ Heather, J-Dub and Fries & Bridges to name a few.
This year's Sneak's Birthday Beats has been inspired by the large warehouse parties Sneak played for Dose in the 90's. Back in the day the Dose 'Freakin' Halloween 'rave' events were the biggest of their kind, attracting 15,000 people. Check out video below from Dose's Connected event held on the CNE grounds which attracted 10,000+ people and featured Armand Van Helden, Carl Cox, DJ Sneak, DJ Dan, and Junior Sanchez, along with a jungle room with headlined by Roni Size.

Luciano is a single-minded artist completely devoted to music, and a performer whose charisma is an intrinsic part of his global appeal. The humble, Swiss-Chilean DJ, producer and boss of Cadenza Records is one of the biggest stars of the global electronic music scene. Born in Switzerland and raised in Santiago, Luciano fell under the spell of Detroit heroes like Juan Atkins and Model 500. “In life always you have an easy way and a complex way,” he says. “The complex way has more rewards.” Luciano left Chile at 21 and moved to Europe, determined to push himself to new heights. He gradually invaded the inner reaches of electronic culture, thanks in part to South American associations like Ricardo Villalobos and Pier Bucci. He formed a partnership with Ibiza’s most notorious underground club, Circoloco at DC10, which gave Luciano a perfect platform and a passionate audience for his irresistible, mind-altering blend of barebones techno and hot-blooded Latin rhythms. His greatest achievement is founding Cadenza Records and its digital offshoot Cadenza Lab. As a DJ he has performed at virtually every major club and festival in the world, blazing a trail of music from Ibiza to every corner of the globe. Summer 2011 was Luciano’s biggest ever in Ibiza with the most-talked about show on the island, Cadenza Vagabundos. Luciano follows his passion for music and it led him to the pinnacle of success. His loyalty lies with his art and his fans, not to the fickle charms of fame. “I don’t do music to be recognized,” Luciano says. “I do it because it’s necessary for me. Ricardo Villalobos is well-known for his work in the minimal techno and micro house genres, and is one of the most significant figures in today's minimal techno scene. Ricardo was born in Santiago, Chile. When he was very young he moved to Germany with his family and at 10 he started to play conga and bongos. Though he loved music, surprisingly he could never see himself as a musician. He began making electronic music when he was young in the late 80s. From a very young age he has been a big fan of Depeche Mode, following their tours around Europe to listen to them. He started DJing as a professional in 1998. By the end of 2008 and 2010, he came 1st in Resident Advisor's Top 100 DJs of the year poll. His mystique has made him thousands of fans everywhere from Cocoon in Ibiza, to Toronto where he appeared for the first time at last year's Sneak's Birthday Beats. This year he returns again for DJ Sneak's birthday beats with his good friend Luciano.

Self-proclaimed House Gangster, Sneak has helped shape the course of dance music since the early 90s influencing the likes of Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx, and Armand Van Helden. Over the years he has developed his signature sounds, consisting of funky filtered disco loops and tough jacking drum beats, revolutionizing and evolving his craft over his 20 year career as an artist and DJ. One of Toronto's house music’s pioneers, Sneak has always had the passion and drive to keep the house scene evolving through his parties, productions and DJ sets. This sound will be powered by THE BEAST; a 32 bass bin, 16 mid range, 2 horn top, 4 corner configuration inspired by the legendary Sound Factory and Twilo in New York City. The same person who helped build the mind blowing Sonic system will building and processing THE CARNIVALE BEAST on the fly during the party to ensure that that each track is matched perfectly. Proper lighting will also be in effect with lots of eye candy, props, performers and freaks adding to the 'Carnivale' theme vibe.
