A musical ambassador since infancy, a professional DJ since his early teens, a veteran of acid house and a champion of techno, Carl Cox puts out a love of his work that is infectious. When he's in the DJ booth and you can't mistake his ecstatic energy, dripping with sweat as his head bobs up and down to the beat, his hands pumping the air whenever they're not manipulating the decks, his body swaying back and forth, frequently taking to the mic to share word on the latest underground tune he's about to smash. You name it, Carl's been there and done it, but he's never lost sight of the point of it: playing music for the people by breaking tunes, spreading love, while celebrating his life.
In 1977, aged 15, Carl got a set of turntables and began working as a mobile DJ. Disco was the first music that captivated him but by the early 80s Cox had moved on to playing the same music as other young London DJs - rare groove, New York hip-hop and electro. He was perfectly placed to hear Chicago house music in its earliest forms, and epic 'Acid Trax' records that shaped his early DJ sound.
The next step was to make music, and Cox retreated into the club world that had nurtured him and embraced the underground sounds of techno. "Techno drives home somewhere," he says of his core music. "It takes you to an element of surprise, not knowing where you're going. It's scary but wonderful at the same time." After forming Intec Records in 1999, the label went on to score a series of underground techno hits and has well over50 releases to date. Over the years he has had several hits and full length albums displaying his broad range of electronic music styles and interests.
In 2011, Carl returned with his unique techno inspired sound to Ibiza’s Space for the tenth year in a row! In 2006 Carl's Space night won ‘Best Ibiza Club Night’ at the Ibiza DJ awards. When not in Ibiza Carl headlines venues and festivals across the USA, South America, Europe, Far East, as well as his current reside Australia. In addition to touring to play for his millions of fans, Carl’s ‘Global’ radio show has now reached well over 4 million listeners and is broadcast over 25 countries worldwide, making him one of the most important broadcasters of electronic music on the planet.
Carl's history with us in Toronto goes back to the legendary Industry nightclub and 'Connected' Rave sets.We are excited to 'TAKE IT BACK' with him on the magical day of Friday11 11 11. Remembrance Day. Toronto do you remember? Are you ready for another ride on the Merry Go Around?
